Script reading

Recently, I felt like doing a throwback to the reading of the Irregular Fantasy! pilot script. It was four and a half years ago... that's a depressing realization. I wanted to post about it because it was a fun and productive thing, but then it made me a little sad.

But, yeah! After Naty, Mason, and I finished writing the screenplay, I brought together the cast to read it and see how it worked; Dominic did the stage directions, and everyone played multiple characters in addition to the ones that, well, they really will play once we get to that point! Well, they did, in the teaser and in the still-unreleased character shorts. And they will again in the pilot, you can count on it, I'm gonna make it happen.

I recorded the reading and then looked over it with Naty, Stacy, and McKenzie to get further thoughts on it, stopping after every scene to see what tweaks could be made. Mostly, there were some bits that were unnecessarily talky given the rush and the stakes involved. So some tweaks of that sort were made, and some time later it was that script that was adapted into the fanfic version of the pilot.

The screenplay's not done yet, I figure. Why? Fight choreography. There are five big fight scenes and I'm going to get a choreographer to really flesh those out, and in expanding the fight scenes, there'll probably be some new character beats, some new dialogue, and that'll be added to the screenplay, but then it'll be finalized.

So, yeah, just felt like reminiscing a bit as I ever so slowly creep forward in the production of these two big projects.
